Could this be the mother of your new pug puppy?

This is sad but very "TRUE"

"Victory"

I have named her “Victory”  because it was major victory to know the owner was put in jail for this bad case of neglect!

I received a call from the Forsyth Animal Shelter in Winston Salem, NC on June 16, 2006.  The wonderful, caring shelter manager, Matt, said he had just got this pug in where animal control had seized her, and the owner was in jail!  He told me she needed medical attention right away because she had a bad eye.  This did not prepare me for what I was about to encounter when I got to the shelter.  They did a heartworm test and it came back (neg), and gave her a Rabies vaccine.

I was speechless to see her eye was infected so bad and had pus running down her face........  She was so  skinny you could count every one of her ribs, not to mention I could tell right away she was dying from malnutrition and dehydration!!

I left the shelter and went straight to see our vet.  The whole ride I prayed she would not die on me before we got there.  I tried to talk to her in hopes she would bark or make some sort of sound...........the whole way I heard . . . nothing. . .  I suppose she just did not have the strength any more to even cry.....

Dr Carroll was on duty and was shock about her condition.  Victory weighs in at a mere 9.8 pounds.........We are guessing at this point she is about 7 or 8 years old.  We could see she had been bred many times by her tits and the scar on her stomach, from where she had c-section surgeries done to remove puppies...............  First she said we need to try and get her system strong enough to undergo surgery to remove the eye because it has already ruptured.  She started a series of blood test and put her on IV Fluids, and said we need to keep her, and will let me know how her condition develops to next few days....................

UPDATE:  June 17, 2006

I called the vet today and there wasn't much to find out other than she is still alive, on IV's  !!!!!!!!!!! and is resting comfortably

UPDATE:  June 18, 2006

I called to check in on Victory this morning and received some wonderful news!  They took her off the IV's today!  She is eating and drinking on her own and is moving around some and repositioning herself inside the crate.

They will consult with Dr. Harling about possibly removing the bad eye tomorrow morning.  So I will call back and find out more then.

UPDATE:  June 19, 2006

I spoke to Dr. Carroll this morning and she sounds very please at Victory's progress!  I truly think all of our prayers are being answered. . .

Victory was very anemic from being full of hookworms, and whip worms, and she is regaining her strength and doing better each day now since they treated her for that!  Her blood platelet count is 18 now and they don't want to do surgery to remove the bad eye until it is at least 25.  She is still eating and drinking on her own and moving around more today.

Dr. Carroll wants to keep her in the hospital and hopes Victory will be strong enough by Thursday to remove the eye.

UPDATE:  June 20, 2006

Dr Carroll will continue to monitor Victory for the next couple day on her blood  platelet counts.  She is doing well and we are praying she will be strong enough to undergo eye surgery by Thursday.

UPDATE:  June 21, 2006

I received a big surprise today when I called to check on Victory today!  Dr Carroll said the blood count was up and she was happy and bouncy so she did the surgery to remove the bad eye today!  So far she is doing well, and she wants to watch her close until the swelling goes down in the socket and hopefully she will be able to come home on Friday!

The vet did say Victory has dry eye in her right eye and will need medication for the rest of her life for that.  She also said she needs a teeth cleaning but we will have to wait a month or so before considering that due to her weak and unstable condition.

UPDATE:  June 23, 2006

I heard about Victory on Dogster last nite and it broke my heart.  I have set up Ebay auctions so far to help pay for her medical care. I am even paying for shipping on these items.  If you cannot bid at this time, can you please go to www.greatfulness.org and light a candle and say a prayer for this little puggy?  No creature should ever endure what she has had to endure.  Her former owner is in jail, but as far as I am concerned, jail is too good for him.  If these auctions go well, I will add more as the week goes on.  Please, please help me get the info on these auctions out - I really want to do something to help. Also, if anyone has anything that they wish to auction off, let me know, I will pay the eBay fees and list under my account.

"THANK YOU ALL"

Victory needs your help to survive, could you be one of her rescue angels and please make a donation in her honor to help us save her life?

Much needed prayers and funds and needed to help her regain her strength to survive

Now that the eBay auctions have ended we would like to extend a warm and sincere thank you to all the wonderful eBay businesses that donated to this fundraiser to help with Victory's medical bills.  Be sure to take your businesses to someone who cares!
