Until We Meet

How blessed is the tie that binds

Our hearts in lasting love,

The comradeship of kindred minds

Is like to that above.

So when at last we have to part

In sorrow and in pain

We know we still are joined in heart,

Until we meet again.

Foster, Billy Ray

FOSTER CLEMMONS - Mr. Billy Ray Foster, 62, of Clemmons was born Sept. 21, 1945, and raised in a small rural town in Walnut Ridge, Ark. He shared his home with a brother, Bobby Dean Foster. He died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, doing what he loved best, riding his beloved Harley in the mountains of Sparta on a beautiful fall day. He was affectionately known to his family as "Bill," "Carp," "Papaw Bill" and Dad. The cause of death was unknown and has not been established as there was no impact or wreck; but rather he collapsed, causing to him fall from his bike. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He lived in many places throughout his life: Marion, Ark. (where he raised his three children); Memphis, Tenn.; Batavia, Ill.; Baton Rouge, La.; and ending up here in Clemmons to make his permanent home. He loved North Carolina for its beautiful mountains and blue skies. Bill was married to Barbara Clodfelter Foster of Clemmons on Feb. 23, 1985, in Winston Salem. They have many shared memories they enjoyed most notably when they had their "boys" with them, their beloved Pugs, Bogey, Satchmo and Mogan. He was preceded by these beautiful Pugs. He was currently employed by Gentiva Home Health Services as a delivery person. Before coming to North Carolina, he worked as a plant manager at Boise Cascade in Memphis and International Paper. His favorite hobbies were spending time with his beloved wife, going to the beach and spending time with friends. He loved riding his Harley, playing with his youngest grandson, visiting with his older grandsons, going to the mountain home and the beach. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Louise Foster Boatman; and his stepfather, Sanders Estes, both of Walnut Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Clodfelter Foster of Clemmons; a brother, Billy Dean Foster (Barbara) of Newport, Ark.; a son, Teddy Ray Foster (Rachel) of Austin, Texas; and two daughters, Julie Warhurst of West Memphis, Ark., and Janet Beasley Lewis (Kim) of Clemmons. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Michael, Richie, Adam, Bryant, Jacqueline, Angela, Tad, Zachary and Foster. He is survived by his second family, the Clodfelters, Bob, Meg, Sharon, Cat and Rob, all who lovingly welcomed them into their family and hearts the day he and Barbara married. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 24, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the local Clemmons Make-A-Wish foundation in honor of his grandson, Harold "Tad" Beasley, or the local Pug rescue organization of North Carolina, P.O. Box 94, Summerfield, NC 27358.

A Special message from the "Foster" family

Message: Dear Chris,
Thank you for your kind condolence. Bill and I love pugs so very much. We had 3 pugs during our 22 year marriage and were considering adopting a rescue when Bill retired. I knew he would want me to request donations be made to PRONC in lieu of sending flowers. I hope you have received some donations. I want you to know how much all the many condolences have meant to me that the wonderful pug rescue friends have sent. I do not know these precious people personally but I thank and love each and everyone of them. Their kindness and caring has touched me in a way I can not express. Their love has been overwhelming. I wish I could thank each one personally but unfortunately I can not so I am asking you to please do me a favor and put this thank you to them on the website. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and God bless you and your endless efforts in helping all of those precious, precious pugs that need it so badly!! with heartfelt love and thanks to you and all of the wonderful pug people,
Barb Foster
