William (“Bill”) A. Hazelrigg, Jr.
Garner- William (“Bill”) A. Hazelrigg, Jr., 69, of Garner, NC died July 6, 2008. He was born in Louisville, KY on October 11, 1937, the son of the late William A. Hazelrigg, Sr. and the late Jane Fallin Hazelrigg.
Mr. Hazelrigg was a career Army veteran serving his country with distinction for over 20 years. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, 6 Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal W/ Device.
Mr. Hazelrigg attended Kentucky Wesleyan College, graduated from Pembroke State University, and attended graduate school in political science at NC State University.
He was a founding member of the Central Carolina Pug Dog Club in which he held several offices; member of the Pug Dog Club of America; member of the Raleigh Kennel Club and recipient of their Sunie Watkins Memorial Service Award and Best Program Award; and a member of the American Legion Post 232.
Surviving are his brother, Jim Hazelrigg, of Hawesville, KY; his sister, Susan Hazelrigg Gray, and husband, Dale, of Hawesville, KY; his son, George, of Wilmington; daughter, Sandra, of Apex; son, Brian, and his wife, Tara, of Clayton; seven grandchildren, Nina Hazelrigg, Alyssa Hazelrigg, Kayla Phillips, Hailey Phillips, Joey Hazelrigg, Allison Hazelrigg, Audrey Hazelrigg; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his partner of 25 years, Florence Taylor, and their wonderful Schoss Pugs.
Committal Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road, Spring Lake, NC 28390.
Mr. Hazelrigg was instrumental in establishing a Pug Rescue effort in NC through Central Carolina Pug Dog Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pug Rescue of North Carolina, Inc., PO Box 94, Summerfield, NC 27358.
